Writing Prompts
Write a favorite memory of the person you’re writing to. Try to make your message relevant! For example, if you’re giving a birthday card to your best friend, write about the first birthday you can remember celebrating with them and why it was so much fun.
Write something you admire about the person you’re writing to.
Haven’t talked to an old friend in a long time? Skip the text message and let them know you’re thinking of them via snail mail by writing a note about the thing you love the most about them!Write about a time when you thought the person was a good: friend, parent, teacher, mentor, athlete, employee etc.
Sometimes people don’t realize how much the small things they do can positively affect others, and reading about it can be the surprise they didn’t know they needed.Write about something you hope to do with the person in the future.
Maybe your sister just welcomed a new baby into the world- mention the things you are excited to do with your new niece or nephew one day.Write about a challenge you overcame together.
Know someone who needs a pick-me-up? Write about a time you saw them overcome something, or about a struggle that the two of you shared, and give hope that the same strength will help them over the next hurdle.Write about something you are really proud of the person for, and why. Get specific!
Write a list of things that remind you of the person (think smells, tastes, small things), or let them know that you thought of them while you were out and about.
For example, if you’re writing to your Grandmother you could mention that you were in the bakery the other day and the smell of fresh baked bread reminded you of spending the night at her house when you were young, and that you wish you could bottle it up!
